Terms of Service

Terms of Service

These terms apply when you subscribe to the linkzine newsletter or use linkzine.com. By subscribing or using the site, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t subscribe.

Who we are

linkzine is operated by:

Thorsten Ott Buschgasse 56, 50189 ELSDORF, DE Email: thorsten@linkzine.com

The website linkzine.com is hosted on WordPress.com (Automattic Inc.). When you visit the site, your use is also subject to Automattic’s Terms of Service at wordpress.com/tos/ — those terms govern the platform itself; the terms below cover our editorial product.

The service

linkzine is a free email newsletter delivering five hand-curated links per weekday issue, covering AI, web development (Laravel/WordPress/PHP), DevOps, security, Linux, and adjacent engineering topics. There is also a Sunday “// THE BRIEF” long-form synthesis edition. We aim for one issue per business day but make no guarantee of frequency, and we may pause or cancel publication at any time.

Subscription

  • The newsletter is free.
  • Subscribing requires an email address you control.
  • We use double opt-in: you confirm via a link in a verification email before receiving any other email from us.
  • You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any newsletter footer or by emailing thorsten@linkzine.com. Unsubscribe is processed within 24 hours.

Acceptable use

You may not:

  • Subscribe with email addresses you don’t control.
  • Resell, repackage, or redistribute issue content for commercial purposes without explicit written permission.
  • Use linkzine.com or its services to attempt to harm the underlying platform’s infrastructure (which is operated by Automattic). Abuse of the platform is also subject to Automattic’s terms.
  • Submit sponsor inquiries that misrepresent the sponsor’s identity.

Editorial content

  • Curated links are selected by an AI ranker followed by human review.
  • We aim to write summaries that accurately reflect the linked content but make no warranty of accuracy.
  • We may correct issues post-send if we discover an error. Substantial corrections will be noted in a follow-up issue.
  • Linked content belongs to its respective authors, not to us. Our summaries are brief excerpts under fair-use / quotation principles.
  • The “// IN OTHER NEWS” block at the bottom of each issue lists additional items with a one-line editor’s take. Same accuracy disclaimer applies.
  • The Sunday “// THE BRIEF” deep-dive includes a personal editorial position written by the operator, clearly anchored as opinion.

Sponsored content

See the Sponsor Disclosure page. Sponsor blocks are clearly labeled // SPONSOR and do not influence editorial.

Intellectual property

  • The linkzine name, layout, design, and original editorial text are © Thorsten Ott.
  • The header images we generate per issue and the legal documents on this site are licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0.
  • Issue web versions are publicly accessible; you may share links freely.
  • You may quote one or two summaries with attribution. Republishing whole issues requires written permission.

No warranties

The newsletter and website are provided “as is”. We make no warranties about accuracy, availability, or fitness for any particular purpose. Linked third-party content is not under our control. Platform availability is governed by WordPress.com’s own service-level posture.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Thorsten Ott is not liable for:

  • Indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.
  • Loss of data, revenue, or profits arising from use of the newsletter or website.
  • Damages from acting on information in a curated link. Do your own evaluation before changing production systems on the strength of a curated link.
  • Platform-side outages, downtime, or feature changes by WordPress.com.

Privacy

How we handle your data is described in the Privacy Policy.

Governing law and venue

  • Governing law: Germany.
  • Venue for disputes: Elsdorf, Germany.
  • For EU consumers, mandatory consumer-protection laws of your country of residence remain unaffected.
  • EU online dispute resolution: https://ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr/.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. Material changes will be announced via the newsletter at least 14 days before taking effect. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
